3.4 billion tonnes

Estimated amount of waste generated worldwide per year by 2050

(source: World Bank)

Waste is a worldwide problem. The World Bank estimates that our waste generation will increase from just over 2 billion tonnes a year, to 3.4 billion tonnes in 2050. The EU Commission says that is a low estimate. In the EU alone, each person generates 6 tonnes of waste. (400 million x 6 = 2,400 million = 2.4 billion in the EU alone).

We know that through regular educational and awareness activities, encouraging people to reduce, rethink, reuse and recycle, we can change behaviour and work towards a more sustainable economy with a cleaner environment. Official data show the efficacy of our work.

Please let us know any ideas or knowledge you have regarding waste, rubbish and behavioural change.
